The update
On October 14, 2026, the U.S. Department of Transportation announced USD $200 million for 14 truck parking projects in 12 states through its INFRA programme. The announcement includes improvements at public rest areas along Iowa’s I-80 and additional spaces on Wisconsin’s I-41, alongside projects serving ports and other freight routes.
What it means for shipment planning
Our takeaway: additional parking can support safer rest stops as projects become available. Funding announcements do not mean the spaces are already open. Drivers and dispatch teams should continue to verify parking availability on the actual route.
For shippers, clear appointment windows and prompt loading information help operations teams plan the journey with realistic time for stops and delivery.
